Ok Lindsi and Jamie, isn't it Monday? Aren't you suppose to be doing an activity post? Why are you talking about pillows on an activity day? Please click to make bigger. Let us explain...According to WebMD, "Pillows can not only impact the quality of our sleep, but also how healthfully we rest and recharge." According to us, and based on common sense, if you aren't rested and recharged, you can't spend quality time with, or do activities with your kids. Both of us have slept on some BAD pillows and we've woken up with headaches and sore necks. We live out the next day, or two, drugged up on ibuprofen (or something stronger) and can barely get by, let alone, do extra activities with our kids. Sleep Number knows that not only does your bed make a difference in your sleep, your pillow does too. That's why they've come up Pillow[ology] to help you find your perfect pillow so you can rest and have energy to do things with your kids. We had a chance to visit our local Sleep … [Read more...]

Sponge Ball Fight–Pinned it, Did it!
Welcome to our first Pinned it, Did it! post!! Every Friday, we'll bring you things we've tried after pinning them on Pinterest. Sometimes they'll be things we've pinned on our personal accounts, sometimes, ideas we've pinned on our Toys In The Dryer account. Either way, we'll let you know if the project or recipe was worth the effort and if our kids had fun doing them. We start with a sponge ball fight: When I saw this pin on Pinterest, I knew it was PERFECT for our neighborhood block party! We've had water balloons in the past that left a huge mess to clean up in the morning plus parents worried their little ones would try to eat the small balloon parts left in the grass. Thus, sponge balls were tried and were an exponential success!! Both the little kids and the teens loved them! Confession before I continue: I have no photos of the actual sponge ball fight because I got to the party at the very end of the fight (work ran a little late). These photos were also taken … [Read more...]
Falling into the "Super Mom trap"
Super Mom VS. A Super Mom Source Super Mom- you know the type. She's in the PTA. She makes meals from scratch. She sews her kids clothing. She uses cloth diapers. She has fresh baked cookies waiting when they arrive home from school. Oops, wait- she drives them to and from school, they don't ride the bus. She has a spotless home. Her marriage is one others envy. She is involved in church leadership. She always looks clean and put together. She is fashionable. Her home is something out of a Martha Stewart magazine. She has baby books filled out in great detail for each child. Their artwork is ALL saved and stored properly. She never wears glasses, she always has time for contacts. When you ask for help she is the first one to volunteer. She runs the bake sale. She has a garage sale every year. Her SUV is always clean and smells wonderful. She writes a blog for her family, for fun, for her crafts, and for her cooking endeavors. She's perfect! A super mom- YOU, ME, … [Read more...]
Toys In The Dryer, Then and Now
Toys In The Dryer is 1 Year Old!! One year ago today, Toys In The Dryer published our very first post, Introducing Toys In The Dryer!. We are both proud and excited that we have made it to our 1 year blogiversary. We have grown leaps and bounds over this past year and we can not thank our readers enough for helping us do that! Did you know we've published 265 posts so far?! It doesn't really feel like it to us!If you've been following us from the very beginning, you know that a few things have changed over this year: We had a (very) brief period where we had a Mom of the Week meme. After only two weeks we decided that MOTW was not going to be very popular. Why we gave up after 2 weeks when we were less than 2 months old is beyond us, but we changed to Fun Stuff Fridays. FSF became popular in it's 21 week run averaging 220 link ups per week in the end. However, we feel that FSF has run it's course being similar to many other linky parties out there. We now bring you Pin it, … [Read more...]
Homemade, Homegrown Pickles
One of my favorite things about summer is gardening! I've never been one that has been able to keep a plant or flower alive but vegetables are a different story! I feel like there is some sort of reward for caring for the veggies verses flowers or plants, you know- some sort of pay off. My oldest son loves, and I mean loves, cucumbers. This kid could eat an entire cuke with every single meal and still ask for more. This spring we decided that cucumbers were a must in our veggie garden and the fruits of our labor have been appearing one right after another! Now I saw our massive pile of cucumbers growing by leaps and bounds and I thought this might be a perfect time to make some pickles! Here is what you need: Cucumbers White Vinegar Dill (fresh is best) Sugar Red Onion (or white) Wash and clean your cucumbers well and if you have a food processor be thankful for that because slicing all those cukes by hand wouldn't be fun. Slice your cucumbers to the desired size (we use … [Read more...]
Happy Labor Day!
For many, Labor Day symbolizes the last day of summer. Most children (including ours) will begin school tomorrow, and life will return to the hustle and bustle of the fall and winter months. Just for fun, we've come up with some Labor Day facts for you (in case, like us, you only know Labor Day as the holiday to do nothing or the day before school starts): The Labor Day holiday was created to pay tribute to the contributions and achievements of the American workers. Labor Day stems from the labor movements in the 19th century as workers protested long hours, little pay, and young children being forced to work. The first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882. In 1884, Labor Day was moved to the first Monday in September. Labor Day was made a Federal holiday in 1894. … [Read more...]
