As I said earlier this week, the girls and I have been making popsicle stick ornaments. The Nativity ornament is one that I pinned a while ago because I thought it was cute and it emphasizes what we believe is the true reason for Christmas. The original post has exact directions on how to make it but we think it's pretty easy to figure out from the photo. Nutty needed a little help with cutting the sticks but other than that, she did it all on her own! She was so excited with the finished product! What have you made from popsicle sticks? … [Read more...]
Popsicle Stick Snowflake Ornaments
Christmas is closer than you think. In fact, Lindsi has already started decorating her house! I personally believe in waiting until after Thanksgiving, but Lindsi is a little more zealous than I am. The girls and I did, however, start getting into the Christmas spirit last week by making some ornaments for our tree. The first of many I will be sharing with you is the popsicle stick snowflake ornament. To be honest, we made a few ornaments and I took pictures in the process of making most of them except this one. Nutty made it so fast, I didn't get a chance! To make your own, you'll need: 4 wooden craft sticks (popsicle sticks) wood glue (Elmer's glue will work fine too) blue paint glitter jewels fishing line or ribbon 1) Start by gluing two popsicle sticks in the middle, 90 degrees apart. 2) Repeat with two more popsicle sticks. 3) Glue the two sets together so that they line up with "spokes" 45 degrees apart. 4) When dry, paint and decorate … [Read more...]
Dollar Store Advent Ideas
For $24 you can create your own Advent Calendar. I have done something similar each year with my kids. Last year we purchased 24 books and wrapped them all and let them unwrap one each night. It was so much fun. This year we decided to hit up our local Dollar Store. Here are 24 ideas for creating a Dollar Store Advent. 1. Rainbow Loom bracelets are all the rage right now. Dollar stores across the country have the rubber bands! 2. Flash Cards- just because they're on vacation doesn't mean the learning has to stop! 3. Foam balls are a huge hit in our house. 4. You can never go wrong with bubbles! If it's cold enough try making some frozen bubbles. 5. Jump Rope- seriously classic toys are still the best! 6. Another classic, paddle boards. 7. Add a little sunshine to a gloomy December day! Bendable flower pens! 8. Coloring and activity books are always a hot commodity in our house. 9. Every year they come out with new Holiday and Christmas books...for a dollar a … [Read more...]
5 Unique Thanksgiving Crafts for Kids
Thanksgiving is coming up and it's time for crafts for the kids to do relating to the season. While scouring the internet for inspiring ideas, I found 5 Thanksgiving crafts I thought were definitely unique. I thought I'd share them with you: 1. The Q-tip Turkey by Crafts-For-All-Seasons. This little guy is perfect as a simple decoration or a place card holder for your table. It does, however, look like a craft that will require adult assistance. 2. M&M Turkey Favors by The Party Animal. I could not get over how cute these looked! Give them to friends or use them to decorate your Thanksgiving table. 3. Golf Ball Turkey by Craft Klatch. If your family loves golf these are perfect! I've never seen anything like these and thought they were super cute! 4. Mayflower Nut by Cultivated Lives. What a great way to remind our kids that Thanksgiving isn't all about turkeys! These little nut boats … [Read more...]
Halloween Fingerprint Art
Our Fingerprint Art post was so popular we thought we'd share a few more just in time for Halloween. First up are our two sneaky witches. All you need is a green thumbprint topped with a green fingerprint. Wait for those to dry and add your details! Don't forget that witches like brooms and always have pointy noses, he he he! Mr Bones- He's easy to make! Choose any color you wish (I liked the bright orange) and make his torso with your thumb. Add the skeleton shaped face with a horizontal fingerprint followed by a vertical fingerprint. Wait for Mr. Bones to dry and add details to him to finish him off. Frank the Frankenstein Using a blue ink dip your thumb in and make your body. Use your thumb again in green for the head. Use your pinky finger for the arms and legs of Frank. Add a few details: a stitch on the forehead and some bolts for his head too! Monsters- Monsters are fun because you can make them any way you want. I chose to make a blue and red one. Add funny features to … [Read more...]
Gross Touch Guessing Game for Halloween
Having a Halloween party this year? You'll need some fun things to do and we've got a great game to play! It's a gross touch guessing game. Here's what you'll need: Grapes as eyeballs--Pealed grapes make the perfect eyeballs. Pull/break (not cut) few apart so that they can feel the inside of the eyeball too. Add a little bit of corn syrup to the bowl to make it even more slimy/gross. Spaghetti as intestines--Cooked, room temp (thick) spaghetti noodles feel like intestines when you put your hands into them. Corn syrup as blood--A bowl full of warm corn syrup makes the perfect pool of blood. Tomatoes as hearts--Peel a tomato and it will feel like a heart in your hand. Cauliflower as a brain--Cooked cauliflower with a little corn syrup or oil over it feels like a brain. Un-popped popcorn as teeth--Nothing like putting your hand into a bowl full of "teeth." Dried apricots as ears--Add just a tiny bit of oil to slime up dried apricots and they'll feel like … [Read more...]
