Angel Food Cake Shot Glass Dessert

I've been seeing edible shot glasses all over the internet lately and I think they are awesome. I decided that for Valentine's Day, I'd try making an angel food cake shot glass dessert. I was going to make edible angel food cake shot glasses and fill it with whip cream and raspberries. Doesn't that sound fun? Well, my idea didn't go as planned! First I went to my local store and picked up some shot glass molds. I got home and quickly discovered that you can't use these molds for baking. I went back to the store and found out that you can only get the baking shot glass molds online (at least with that store). To Amazon I went to order my molds using Prime 2-day free shipping. Then I waited... I was so excited when the shot glass molds came in the mail! I hopped online to see if there were any tricks to help with making my angel food cake shot glass dessert, but found nothing related to angel food cake. That should have been my first clue. Oh well, I'd press on through … [Read more...]

Free Printable Emoji Valentines

Emojis are all the rage these days and my daughters are not immune to their appeal. Kiki thinks they are fun, but TJ loves anything and everything emoji. She especially loves the poop one. I'm not quite sure why. This year she asked if she could give out emoji Valentines at school. We searched the internet and found some free printable emoji Valentines, but none that contained her favorite poop emoji. So what did I do as an awesome mom? I made her her own Valentines! This isn't the first time I've made Valentines for my girls. Check out the Valentine's posts on this blog and you'll see some that have been a huge success and others that have flopped. Kiki's friends LOVED my fortune teller Valentines. But, an attempt at making invisible ink Valentines was a complete failure. For these free printable emoji Valentines I did my research. I looked up the top used emojis according to Google and my girls' iPods. Though the poop is not in Google's top 10, it is among the top … [Read more...]

Make Your Own Paper Bowl – Christmas Decor

Last month TJ and I made a leaf bowl out of fallen leaves as part of our fall decor. It worked so well we decided to try making a bowl out of paper for Christmas. If you have left over paper from your Origami wreath, this is perfect!  Here's how you can make your own paper bowl Christmas decor: Start by gathering your supplies: Christmas paper in different patterns Round punch (optional) Scissors Modge Podge Bowl (the size you want your finished bowl to be) Sponge brush Plastic wrap Start by using your round punch to make circles out of your paper. It doesn't matter the size of the circles. We used bigger ones but I think if we do this again I would use smaller ones for more variety. If you don't have a round punch, that's ok. You can use any shape punch you want or you can even tear the paper into whatever shape you want. Each bowl is unique and that's the beauty of it! Next you'll want to cover your bowl with plastic wrap so that the Modge … [Read more...]

Christmas Family Traditions

Growing up my extended family did not live near us. Often times holidays were spent with just my immediate family of my mom and dad, me, and my sister. My family developed strong Christmas family traditions because it was just the four of us. Christmas Eve wasn't Christmas Eve, it was my dad's birthday. For as long as I can remember we'd get him a puzzle for his birthday each year. We'd spend the day (and the week after Christmas) putting it together as a family. For dinner my mom made a spread of appetizers and we'd snack while playing games. One of our favorite games was Uno. "Blue to you" became a family joke and a "disease" my sister often got as she never had blue cards. Instead of birthday cake we'd eat Ice Box Pudding, a traditional birthday desert handed down my dad's family for five generations. Christmas Day my sister and I would wake early and open our stockings. We'd then go wake our parents and eat Christmas Morning Sticky Buns for breakfast. After breakfast, … [Read more...]
