What's for dinner? It is a question that many of us dread each day. What is for dinner? What do I have the ingredients for? Ugh...I don't feel like cooking... If you've been paying close enough attention to our blog, you know that Lindsi is a meal planning freak "expert" and Jamie has been trying her hand at meal planning too. We both find meal planning to be helpful in stress, energy, and money saving. It also helps with the dreaded, "What's for dinner?" question! The one problem however, is the time it takes to come up with recipes. Flipping through multiple different websites and cook books can get confusing and overwhelming. Add in the time it takes to make a grocery list for all your meals and making a weekly meal plan can take up to 1/2 a day! That's where Relish! comes in! We've been using Relish! for our meal planning for a little over 2 months and we couldn't be happier! The first week Jamie used Relish! her Facebook status said, "Trying out a new online … [Read more...]
Lemon Pound Cake–Guest Post
Today we are so excited to have Kate from Kate in the Kitchen guest posting for us as we take time to recover from our Plates In The Dryer event yesterday. Kate is an awesome person and a fabulous food blogger. She has a great way of combining recipes with stories so her blog is anything but boring! Looking for some delicious food to try? Check out her recipe index to find all kinds of healthy stuff! Without further ado, here is Kate with Lemon Pound Cake (Yum!)... ------------ My son just turned 18, so I've moved in to a much different stage of parenting, with a new set of joyous occasions. Still, the one aspect of guiding someone's life that I will never lose is wanting to fill them with healthy foods that not only nourish their bodies, but give them a mouthful of plentiful taste as well. I've learned so much in the course of his lifetime about feeding a little person, and helping them to negotiate the big world of flavors, textures and eating, and the one constant I've held … [Read more...]
Chocolate-Peanut Butter "Dip"
Ok, this is going to seem like kind-of a cop-out post for a Tasty Treat, however, I kid you not, my girls (and I) LOVE this "dip"! One day when I was younger I was craving Reece's Peanut Butter Cups but couldn't go to the store to get them (because my mom wouldn't let me). I dug through our cupboards and found chocolate chips and peanut butter and decided that would be close enough. After a few times of simply eating a spoonful of peanut butter with some chocolate chips on top, I decided to actually mix them together. I took a spoonful (or two) of peanut butter and sprinkled some chocolate chips on top. (Semi-sweet will work fine but milk chocolate is the best!) I put the peanut butter and chocolate chips in the microwave to melt the chocolate. My first attempt was a complete failure. WARNING: Chocolate chips will burn in the microwave! I learned my lesson the second time. (Put it in for 30 seconds or less. Just until the peanut butter starts to look runny. The … [Read more...]
Cookie-Ice Cream Pizza
A few days ago I got it in my head to try making a special desert pizza so the girls and I made cookie-ice cream pizza. We had a ton of fun both making and eating this treat! A few things to note before you make this yummy desert pizza: 1) It takes a few hours to make 2) Plan ahead as you'll need to let your ice cream thaw a bit 3) It is SUPER filling so a small piece goes a long way! You'll need: Ingredients to make sugar cookies (we used this recipe and cut it in half) Pizza baking sheet Rolling pin Ice cream (we used vanilla) Toppings of your choosing (we used M&Ms and broken chocolate pieces) Step 1) Start by making your sugar cookie recipe. *Pull your ice cream out of the freezer at this time so that it can thaw just a little. You want to be able to spread it well. Please excuse Nutty's make-up in these photos. The girls decided to play beauty salon prior to making the pizza and I didn't have the heart to tell Nutty that her make-up looked … [Read more...]
Unique Smore’s Bites
Smore's treats are all the rage on Pinterest. People seem to love Smore's! In fact, this isn't the first Smore's treat our blog has made. Remember our Gimme Smore Cookies and Smore's Croissants? Well, this is yet another version of this tasty American treat. These came as an idea to me when I was craving a Smore's type treat but didn't have the "proper" ingredients. Ok, so I had chocolate and marshmallows but no grahm crackers. Plus my marshmallows were mini and my chocolate was chips, not exactly right for making Smore's...I looked through my cupboards and found Vanilla Wafer Cookies--perfect! Here's what you'll need to make your own Unique Smore's Bites: Vanilla Wafer Cookies Peanut Butter Chocolate Chips Mini Marshmallows Microwave Step 1) Spread peanut butter on the flat side of the cookies. (We tried these without peanut butter but everything kept falling off the cookies so we added peanut butter to help things stay in place.) Step 2) Put one … [Read more...]
Bunny Cakes
OK, OK so I know I'm tooting my own horn here but I'm impressed with how cute they turned out! I made "bunny cakes." I actually made the cupcakes from scratch, the batter, the frosting and the decorations! Yup! Aren't they cute? You don't have to go all out and make the batter and frosting from scratch like I did but you totally can if you want to! Either way, have fun and enjoy! Start with white/yellow cupcakes and set them aside to cool completely. Do not cover them or the tops of the cupcakes will become sticky. Add a layer of pink frosting to completely cover the tops of the cupcakes. Then add a smaller circular layer of white frosting in the middle of the pink (this will be the face of the bunny) Next you will take your marshmallows and cut them into small discs. Snip the mallows down the middle to create ears. Dip the sticky side of the mallows in colored sugar to decorate. Last decorate the face with candy sprinkles to make the eyes, nose and … [Read more...]
