Reindeer Made From Corks–Pinned it, Did it!

I don't know about you but Hubby and I love wine and we drink it frequently.  I have saved all of my corks, thinking one day I will make something out of them.  I have an entire large box full and have yet to do anything with them until now!I saw this super cute cork reindeer on Pinterest and thought this was perfect for my girls to make and a perfect use of some of my corks! The original post does not have any directions so I had to guess a bit.  We also didn't have the same things on hand so we improvised... We quickly discovered that regular glue just won't work so we used our hot glue gun which worked much better! Two and a half corks, some pipe cleaners, "google eyes" as my girls call them, and a pink jewel (because we didn't have red) and we've got a cork reindeer!Ours vs theirs..what do you think?P.S.  The original post has some other super cute things to make for Christmas out of corks so I highly suggest you check it out! … [Read more...]

Easy Spiderweb Making

We don't have a lot of store-bought Halloween decorations for our house because we prefer to make them. Here's an easy, fun, and occasionally messy way to make spiderwebs for decoration! To make them you'll need: White yarn (or black if you want to make your spiderweb shadowy) Simple flour and water paste (mix four and water together to make a paste) Paper Pen Wax paper Scissors Start by drawing a spiderweb on your paper.  We made ours a corner spiderweb but you can make a full round one.  Yes, I realize that I drew my lines wrong above.  We figured that our half-way through making our web!  If your children are a little older, you probably do not need to draw a spiderweb first. Cover your paper with wax paper to prevent sticking when you glue it together. Dip pieces of yarn into your paste mixture and put them on the wax paper following the lines you drew.  Make sure to press together the places where your yarn meets. Wait till your spider web … [Read more...]

Simple, Beautiful Sun Catchers

Last month Tottie and I made Fall Sun Spiral Sun Catchers.  Today, Nutty and I bring you simple, yet beautiful sun catchers that older kids can make! To make them for yourselves, you'll need: Fishing line (shhh...don't tell my husband that I stole some from one of his fishing poles!) Small mirrors (6 per sun catcher) Beads (6 per sun catcher) Hot glue gun (or similar glue) 1)  Make sure you give yourself plenty of fishing line.  You'll need a longer string than you think because you'll have to put a hanging loop at the top. 2)  Start by tying two beads at the bottom of your string. 3)  Next, glue two mirrors back to back a little further up the line making sure your line is in the middle of your string.  (Click on the photo to enlarge it if need be)  Your sun catcher should look like the photo below. 4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 two more times moving further up the string. 5)  Make a loop at the top to use for hanging. *Helpful hint: Put a dot of glue on each … [Read more...]

Yarn Bowl- Pinned it, Did it!

I'm going to start of this Pinned it, Did it! post by saying that this yarn bowl craft was a semi-failure.  I say "semi" though because I know what I did wrong, I now know how to fix it, and I am confident that if we were to try again, it would work just fine. (even my photo turned out slightly blurry!) I saw this yarn bowl pin and thought it was totally awesome and my girls would love making it.  Well, Nutty did have fun making it, but ours did not turn out so awesome. We made our flour and water paste.  This was our first wrong step.  The original directions call for paper mache paste.  The difference?  Paper mache paste dries clear, simple flour and water paste dries white. We got using a glass bowl right but I COMPLETELY forgot to cover it with Saran Wrap before we started wrapping paste covered string all over it.  Yeah, I had to pry that string off with a sharp knife once it was dry.  NOT cool!  I almost gave up and cut it off with scissors (ruining the yarn bowl) but I … [Read more...]

Leaf Animals–Pinned it, Did it!

It's Friday which mean's another Pinned it, Did it! post!  This pin totally caught my eye and I decided that Tottie could easily do it!  She is only 4 so she needed some direction as to where to put the leaves but she had a ton of fun watching her moose come together on paper! You'll need to gather some leaves of various shapes and sizes.  We simply looked at the photo from the pin and tried to find leaves that matched.  It was good lesson in leaves and matching for Tottie. Then just glue the leaves like they are in the picture!  The website that the pin came from has many other leaf animals on it so I highly suggest you go check it out and try some other ones with your kids! Not bad for a 4 year old huh? … [Read more...]
