Hot Ice Experiment

You know we love science activities here on Toys In The Dryer. We especially love ones that use things we normally keep on hand in our house or kitchen. This hot ice experiment is one you can do if you have a little time as I guarantee you have the ingredients in your kitchen! You'll need: 1 liter of distilled white vinegar 4 tablespoons of baking soda a large sauce pan a bowl with a lid or a bowl with plastic wrap Does this experiment sound an awful lot like a volcano experiment? It sure does, but in my opinion, the hot ice experiment is MUCH cooler. I must give you fair warning before I give you the directions for hot ice: You'll need time for this experiment as it takes a minimum of 2 hours to set up. You'll also need to be prepared for your house to smell like vinegar as you boil it. In fact, Hubby came home from work, took one whiff of the house and asked Nutty if we were doing science experiments that day! 1) Mix the vinegar and baking soda in your … [Read more...]

Disney On Ice Presents Frozen Recap #DisneyOnIceInsider

I received something of value from Feld Entertainment as part of their Insider Program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Last evening my family and I had the chance to attend opening night (Minneapolis) of Disney On Ice Frozen. Let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint! We've seen two other Disney On Ice shows but as my husband said, "Frozen is the best Disney On Ice show we've seen by far!" It was a bit hard to get photos because the lighting was so dramatic and everything was moving. What I have does NOT do the show justice. It's definitely worth going to see in real life if you have the chance. Before I go on and on about the good things, I do have three things to warn you about: 1) The show starts with a brief introduction by Mickey, Mini, Goofy, and Donald Duck, and is then followed by the Disney Princesses and other popular Disney characters. This confused my girls as they thought they were not going to … [Read more...]

Our Adventures at the Ice Castles MN

I first let you know about the Minnesota Ice Castles back in January. If you haven't gone to see them yet, you better hurry! They're only open for about another week and a half. They close March 7th. Thanks to US Family Guide, my family finally got a chance to visit them two days ago and we were not disappointed! One advantage to going so late in the year (and during the week) is that there wasn't a crowd at all. We got right in. I still say you need to check out the tips from MinneMamaAdventures and TwinCitiesFrugalMom. Both went earlier in the season but a lot of their tips still hold true. The girls LOVED the Ice Castles. So did Hubby and I. To be honest, Hubby thought they were going to be a bit boring because "they aren't real castles made with blocks, they are just a bunch of icicles." He admitted that he was wrong and that the "architecture was pretty cool." He's the one that took all the video below. I didn't ask him to take it, he just thought it was cool enough … [Read more...]

Lego Marble Maze

I have to admit, the Lego Marble Maze is not my idea. I discovered it on Pinterest. You'll find the original idea on a French blog: de-tout-et-de-rien-caroline. I took one look at this maze and knew my girls would have fun with it. I just didn't realize how much fun they'd actually have. I had a Lego Marble Maze set up for them when they got home from school. My daughter saw it and said, "Oh cool! What is this?" After explaining to her what it was and how it works, she quickly set out to solve the maze. Then Tottie got to try it. I left some openings in the edges of the maze to make it a bit hard... Both girls solved my maze fairly easily. Both were determined that they could make a harder maze. They spent the next few hours building different mazes and testing them out. Yes, this simple Lego Marble Maze kept my girls occupied for at least two whole hours! Some of the mazes they made were better than mine! I thought it was fun to watch them work on their … [Read more...]
