Having a Halloween party this year? You'll need some fun things to do and we've got a great game to play! It's a gross touch guessing game. Here's what you'll need: Grapes as eyeballs--Pealed grapes make the perfect eyeballs. Pull/break (not cut) few apart so that they can feel the inside of the eyeball too. Add a little bit of corn syrup to the bowl to make it even more slimy/gross. Spaghetti as intestines--Cooked, room temp (thick) spaghetti noodles feel like intestines when you put your hands into them. Corn syrup as blood--A bowl full of warm corn syrup makes the perfect pool of blood. Tomatoes as hearts--Peel a tomato and it will feel like a heart in your hand. Cauliflower as a brain--Cooked cauliflower with a little corn syrup or oil over it feels like a brain. Un-popped popcorn as teeth--Nothing like putting your hand into a bowl full of "teeth." Dried apricots as ears--Add just a tiny bit of oil to slime up dried apricots and they'll feel like … [Read more...]
Pasta Skeleton Craft – Pinned it, Did it!
When I saw this skeleton idea on Pinterest I just knew I had to do it with my girls. What a fun way to teach them about the bones of the body and celebrate Halloween! I did some Googling and figured out you could be as crazy detailed as you want, or as simple as you want. We chose to be fairly simple but Nutty wanted a little more detail than Tottie did. To make your own pasta skeleton you'll need: Different kinds of pasta Paper Glue That's it! I'd tell you the exact kinds of pasta you need but that is really dependent on how detailed you want to get. We used Penne, small elbow, medium shells, and thin spaghetti. Both girls had fun making these skeletons and Nutty had fun "adding more bones" than Tottie had. She learned about the tibia, fibula, ulna, and radius that Tottie did not put in her skeleton. All-in-all I'd say that this Pinned it, Did it! was a success as it got my girls interested in learning more about our bones. What have you made with … [Read more...]
Magic Dancing Ghost
Tomorrow is October 1st which means it's time for a little Halloween fun! Today's activity is magic dancing ghosts but in all reality, there's no magic behind these ghosts, there's science! It's all about static electricity. Magic dancing ghosts make the perfect science activity for kids. To make your own dancing ghosts you'll need: Toilet paper Pen or marker Black balloon (color optional) Dark room (optional) Flash light (optional) 1) Start by drawing small ghosts on toilet paper then cutting them out. 2) Next, blow up your balloon. 3) Rub the balloon on anything that will create static electricity (we prefer to rub it on hair!) 4) Hover the balloon over the toilet paper and watch it dance! For more fun, take your set-up into a dark room with a flash light. Shine the flashlight onto the ghost but avoid the black balloon. If you get it right, it will look like the ghost is floating on its own! … [Read more...]
DIY Mini Tea Party For Fairies–Pinned it, Did it!
Yesterday we had a fairy tea party for human girls. Today we bring you a tea party for fairies themselves! I've seen these fairy tea sets all over the web. I especially liked this one on Pinterest. After looking at the tea sets, however, I decided rather than paying for them, I could make them myself!! Tottie and I went on over to our neighbor's house and hunted for the perfect acorns along with some flowers, leaves, bark, and tiny twigs... This pretty much where her participation ended because I had to get out the glue gun for the rest... She had fun collecting the things we needed though and had even more fun watching the tea party come together! An acorn turned upside down with an acorn cap glued to the top along with a twig spout and handle made the perfect tea pot. A plain acorn without a cap made the perfect sugar bowl (or cream bowl). Acorn caps with small twig handles make for perfect cups while we used flowers for saucers... A bark … [Read more...]
Fairy Bread and Tea
It's time for a fairy tea party! My girls love to have tea parties and having a fairy one is no exception! Tottie was feeling a bit down on herself the other day because Nutty was in school and she wasn't. To help her feel better, I had a fairy tea party with her. I really didn't do anything special. I simply made fairy bread and some "fairy tea", picked a few flowers, put on some fairy wings, and set up a little "party" on the table outside. It was enough to make her extremely happy (and make Nutty jealous when she got home from school). Fairy bread is super easy to make and is something I learned about from my Australian friends. It is a treat typically served at children's parties though the origin is not quite known (at least by my friends). To make it: 1) Spread a thin layer of butter over white bread 2) Cover the buttered bread with small, multi-colored sprinkles 3) Cut the bread into 4 triangles and serve. The "tea" is actually a simple punch recipe I grew up … [Read more...]
