Last year for Mother's Day I got the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker machine... I was SO excited...my jeans were not (8 pounds later!!!!). If you have an ice cream maker in your home then you know how amazing home-made ice cream tastes. It is almost worth the calories. OK, I'll be honest, it IS worth the calories! There are tons of recipes out there for ice cream flavors but today I am going to share with you a little family tradition we have in our home. Every year my husbands fathers family gets together to celebrate Christmas and my husbands uncle is always in charge of bringing the ice cream. The man makes GALLONS of it! I couldn't put my finger on it the first year I celebrated with them but something was different about this ice cream. Easy, No-Freeze, Homemade Ice Cream
We've had yet another heat wave in Minnesota this week so I thought it was about time that I taught my girls how to make easy, no-freeze, homemade ice cream. Yes, this recipe is no-freeze so it's super quick, and because it's homemade, it's super yummy too! To make your own, you'll need: 1/2 cup of half & half 1 Tablespoon sugar 1/4 teaspoon vanilla 1 sandwich size Ziploc bag 1 gallon size Ziploc bag 3 cups crushed ice 1/3 cup rock salt (sometimes called ice cream salt) Step 1) Put the half & half, sugar, and vanilla in the sandwich size Ziploc bag. Seal it tight. Step 2) Make sure the sandwich size Ziploc bag is definitely sealed. Step 3) Put the ice and rock salt in the gallon size Ziploc bag. Step 4) Add the sandwich size bag to the gallon size bag. Seal it tight. Step 5) Make sure the gallon sized bag is sealed tight. Step 6) Shake the bags for about 10-15 minutes until the ice cream forms. We ended up using a towel to hold … [Read more...]
Cookie-Ice Cream Pizza
A few days ago I got it in my head to try making a special desert pizza so the girls and I made cookie-ice cream pizza. We had a ton of fun both making and eating this treat! A few things to note before you make this yummy desert pizza: 1) It takes a few hours to make 2) Plan ahead as you'll need to let your ice cream thaw a bit 3) It is SUPER filling so a small piece goes a long way! You'll need: Ingredients to make sugar cookies (we used this recipe and cut it in half) Pizza baking sheet Rolling pin Ice cream (we used vanilla) Toppings of your choosing (we used M&Ms and broken chocolate pieces) Step 1) Start by making your sugar cookie recipe. *Pull your ice cream out of the freezer at this time so that it can thaw just a little. You want to be able to spread it well. Please excuse Nutty's make-up in these photos. The girls decided to play beauty salon prior to making the pizza and I didn't have the heart to tell Nutty that her make-up looked … [Read more...]
