St. Jude Red Carpet for Hope #GoldenGlobes Event #StJudeRedCarpet

As a pediatric intensive care nurse in my off-line world, I see the worst of the worst of what cancer can do to kids. I also see survivor miracles. Those miracles are what keep me going in my job. Without research, however, those survivor stories would be few and far between.
St. Jude Red Carpet for Hope

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a world leader in childhood cancer research.  Through their efforts, they have brought 5 year childhood cancer survival rates from 5-50% in 1962 to 65-95% today (survival rates depend on the type of cancer).  St. Jude research is freely shared with doctors and scientists all over the world, including with the hospital in which I work.  All of this is done with NO COST to the patients and families that go to St. Jude.  That’s right, they pay for NOTHING!

That’s where events like the St. Jude Red Carpet for Hope Golden Globes Viewing Party come into play.  St. Jude is funded by donations from large companies and regular people like you and me.  St. Jude Red Carpet for Hope is an annual fund raiser and is the ONLY Golden Globe sanctioned viewing party in the US.  I was extremely excited to be able to attend with a few other local bloggers!

I apologize for the horrible cell phone photos but I didn’t want to lug around a large camera with my cocktail dress!  Above are me, Ashley (Crunchy Frugalista), Samara (Simplicity In The Suburbs), Missy (Five Crooked Halos), and Zhenya (Being Zhenya).  Along with these ladies, I also ran into one of the neuro surgeons I work with–Dr. Nagib!  No photo with him as we both were busy socializing.

A silent auction, great food and drinks, fun company, a few tears from survivor and non survivor stories, a live auction, viewing of the Golden Globes, and of course, large and generous pockets made the night one that I will soon not forget.  All said and done, over $190,000 was raised at the St. Jude Red Carpet for Hope Golden Globes Viewing Party to help fund the fight against childhood cancer!  Yes, that’s right, over $190,000!  Wow!

  1. What a great event for a great cause! I haven’t been personally touched by childhood cancer, but every story I hear breaks my heart in a million pieces. I’m so thankful for St. Jude’s and the work they do!

  2. I am so appreciative of your words here. As a family doc, I have had the rare and difficult opportunity to care for a family going through childhood cancer. It just sucks. And St. Jude does so much to make it better. When I started med school 60% of kids with cancer died. Now 85% get to cure. Donating now to make that number higher!
