Smashburger, the nation’s fastest growing “better burger” restaurant, opened up its tenth Minnesota location in Apple Valley on Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Known for localizing its menu in every market with regionally inspired burgers, side items and local craft beers, Apple Valley Smashburger patrons can enjoy the Twin Cities Smashburger topped with layers of melted cheddar cheese, aged Swiss cheese and garlic grilled onions with lettuce, tomato and mayo on an onion bun. My family and I had the privilege of attending a media preview the night before the restaurant opened to the public.
I’m not much of a food expert but I appreciate a good burger and this Smashburger has them! The secret is in the smash. It starts with 100-percent—fresh, never frozen, Angus Beef and is smashed on a 400 degree flat grill to sear in the juicy flavor. To further the “better burger” experience, the burgers are served on toasted artisan buns and topped with a selection of the freshest produce, real cheeses, and highest-quality condiments.
I tried the Avocado Club burger and I was not disappointed. It was well done, just the way I like it, but still super juicy. You can’t go wrong with bacon and avocado too!
Smashburger is more than just burgers. They also have marinated grilled chicken sandwiches, fresh-tossed signature salads, along with a variety of sides including rosemary and garlic–seasoned Smashfries, Haystack Onions, Sweet Potato fries, and Veggie Frites (flash-fried and seasoned carrot sticks and green beans). Hubby tried the BBQ Bacon and Cheddar Smashchicken. It takes a lot to impress Hubby so when he declared “this is my new favorite place,” I was shocked. It doesn’t hurt that they serve beer too 🙂
The kids didn’t have much to say about their chicken strips and hot dog but they’re kids, what do you expect? Nutty, however, was disappointed that they had regular hot dogs and not corn dogs. The whole family enjoyed the sweet potato fries while Hubby and I were the only two that liked the seasoned Smashfries. The haystack onions were good but a bit hard to eat.
Overall, my entire family gives Smashburger a big thumbs up and we’ll definitely be making this one of our regularly visited restaurants as it’s not too far from where we live.

My family was provided a free meal as part of the media preview. I received no further compensation for this post.
