I was asked by HomeSelfe to try the app in my home and share my thoughts with you. Though I was compensated for my time, the opinions are mine. The facts above were provided by Homeselfe.
I thought I had to be home to do the app but I was wrong. You can take a HomeSelfe anywhere you are. The only thing you will need to get started is the average cost of your energy bills. It’s a question they ask when you sign up so that they can get an idea of cost savings at the end.
The app takes you through various mock rooms in your house and asks questions related to energy usage and waste. I thought it was kinda fun to go through. It didn’t take long at all and was very eye opening. It asked questions that a lot of us should be aware of but also some I never thought of before.
I only had one minor problem with the app…on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S6) it wasn’t quite sized right or something. Some things got cut off. It still wasn’t hard to go through. It was more a bit annoying than anything and didn’t prevent me from answering any of the questions.
Once you go through all the “rooms” in your house, the HomeSelfe app gives you ideas for improvements you can make to reduce energy use and save money. Two things I discovered needed work were wall insulation in my basement and air sealing around my doors. Overall though, my house faired “Good” as far as energy consumption goes.
Again, I thought the HomeSelfe App was fun and easy to use. It’s FREE so why not try it yourself? You may just discover some areas of improvement in your own home.
One thing to make note of is that HomeSelfe is connected with companies that provide improvements to your home. In that way, when you use the app you’ll get a phone call or text message from those companies.
Use those companies to get estimates and even discounts and rebates on the work needed to improve your home, or simply text back and decline like I did. Hubby is a very handy guy and is already in the process of fixing some of the things the app pointed out to us.
