My family and I are proud to introduce our newest member…Bentley!
He’s an (approximately) 1.5 year old Boxer boy who we are fostering-to-adopt. He was found as a stray in North Carolina and transported to us in Minnesota this past weekend. The rescue group, Across America Boxer Rescue, is based out of MN but takes dogs from across the US, thus we got a dog from NC 🙂
Despite him being here for less than 24 hours, he has definitely made himself at home and is blending beautifully into our family so far! We can’t believe how calm and gentle he is for his age! Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a puppy and easily excitable, but he’s neither a jumper nor a mouther (bonus!).
As you can see, we’ve got some work to do to fatten this boy up. Right now you can see all his ribs and his back bone. Once he puts on some weight and fills out to his full grown self (boxers finish “filling out” around 3 years old), he’s going to be one BIG handsome boy!
We had some concerns that our very dominant female French Bulldog would not be happy with a new family member but so far she’s tolerating him just fine. She gave him the death stare and a quick nip when he first entered our home to let him know that she was queen bee and that was the end of that. It took Bentley a couple of hours to stop being leery of her. As I’m writing this though, they are laying on the floor next to each other happily chewing on toys.
He seems to be house-trained and semi command-trained (at least with the word ‘sit’). We’ve got work to do with leash training as he’s a strong tugger. We also need to acclimate him to our electric fence but with snow on the ground that’s going to be a bit hard. We just might have to keep him on a leash this winter.
Speaking of snow and winter…Bentley is from North Carolina and is quite confused about the white stuff on the ground. He’ll walk in it but isn’t exactly thrilled. The rescue gave us a jacket for him so going outside isn’t quite as cold. I definitely think that helps!
I’m so excited for Bentley to be joining our family. We hope to be officially adopting him soon!
Update: We DID end up adopting Bentley. Read his story in Part 1 and Part 2.
Aw, what a sweet face! Poor little skinny guy. I feel like I can deal with any behavior issues with a dog as long as they’re nice. Sounds like you’re on your way to having a great family member.
Congratulations! What a fun addition to the family!
Bentley is just adorable. Makes me want a dog again. He looks so loving.
Cute that he got a jacket to wear in the cold! I hope he continues to blend well with your family.
Bentley is adorable. My 8 year old has been begging us to get a pet. We’re waiting till we get rid of the carpet on the floor once my 9 month old begins to walk!
Bentley is absolutely adorable! Congrats to your family on your new addition. I love that he is a rescue pup… they are the best!
Bentley looks like a real love. We have two rescue dogs that are absolutely a big part of our family. Love the jacket. 🙂
Bentley looks like he’s going to be a big boy! But, I love how quickly he was comfortable and fitting right in.
Awww, Bentley is ADORABLE!!! Good for you for rescuing a sweet puppy!
Hi Bentley! You are a very handsome pup! I know you’ll spoil your new family with a friendship that only an adorable dog like you can give.
Awww, he’s so cute! So glad he adapted quickly to your home!
I think Bentley is the most perfect puppy in the whole world. He’ll be the perfect addition to your family! Good for you adopting a dog. 🙂

Welcome to the family, Bentley! He’s a cutie, and I’m sure he’ll be a great addition.
What a cute little dog!!
That’s cute that he didn’t recognize the snow! Hopefully, he will officially be yours soon 🙂
He must be from the west side of Carolina then. We don’t get much snow here, but they do on the East side. I’m sure he’ll be fattened up good in no time!
Congrats! Bentley is adorable and I love his name!! We recently got a puppy and they really are amazing and so loving. Enjoy him!
That’s a great name for a dog! Congrats on the new addition!
Awww congrats! I love that shot of him on the couch. It doesn’t take long for them to steal your heart, does it?
His transport to Minnesota started in Asheville. Looks like it’s fairly close to the TN border. What’s the weather like in that area?
Very cute! He has the sweetest little face. Congrats on the new family member!
Bentley is the cutest! I have been torn between wanting to get a boxer or pug. 🙂
