Caramel Cashew Pretzels

Caramel cashew pretzels don't last long at my house.  They don't last long when I make them for parties either.  They are the perfect combo of sweet and salty! To make them you'll need: pretzels, whole cashews (or another kind of nut if you don't like cashews), Rolo candies, and a cookie sheet. Step 1)  Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Step 2)  Have your kids fill the cookie sheet with pretzels while you begin to unwrap and eat the Rolos. Step 3)  While you continue to unwrap and eat the Rolos (this takes a long time) have your kids start putting one Rolo on each pretzel. Step 4)  After each pretzel has a Rolo on top, put them in the oven for 1-2 minutes or just long enough for the Rolos to begin to melt.  Don't over melt them!! Step 5)  Take the cookie sheet full of pretzels and barely melted Rolos out of the oven and place one cashew on top of each Rolo.  Press gently down on the cashew so that it sticks into the Rolo.  *Please note the cookie sheet will be HOT so … [Read more...]

Gimme Smore’s cookies

Who doesn't love a good old fashioned S'more? I know we do! In fact, they are a favorite at our house. And chocolate chip cookies? You'd have to be crazy not to love those. So why not mix the two together in an awesome, ooey, gooey S'more cookie? Here's what you need 1 1/2 cups flour 1 cup graham cracker crumbs (personally I like them with a few pieces in small chunks) 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 dash of cinnamon (in case you don't know what a dash is Websters Dictionary defines it as 1/8 of a teaspoon) 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened NOT melted 3/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 eggs 2 cups miniature chocolate chips (please note, you must use chocolate chips NOT chopped up chocolate bars) 1 1/2 cups mini marshmallows 2 chocolate bars, chopped Mix all but the mini mallows and the chocolate bar chunks in a bowl and drop a tablespoon amount on a cookie tray. Bake for approximately 8  minutes at 375 degrees. Remove … [Read more...]

Boiled Cookies

Boiled cookies are something my mom, sister, and I used to make all the time when I was little.  Eating them brings me back to my childhood.  I hope one day my girls will share these with their children and bring back memories too! Here's what you'll need: 2 cups sugar 3 T baking coca 1/2 cup milk 1 stick margarine 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 cup peanut butter 3 cups oatmeal wax paper 1) Combine the sugar, baking coca, milk, and margarine.  Bring to a rolling boil and boil for one minute. 2)  Remove from heat and add the vanilla and peanut butter.  Stir until peanut butter melts. 3)  Add the oatmeal and stir until all oatmeal is coated. 4)  Drop on waxed paper by teaspoonful (or more, like we did). Refrigerate until cool. 5)  Enjoy!  Mmmm.... Do you have a special treat that brings you back to your childhood? … [Read more...]

Squirrel Mix

It’s fall, the second best season in my opinion (next to summer) and there are some fun ways to get your kids in the spirit and hopefully out of the “missing my popsicle and freeze pop blues.” Why not take a little time out to create some fun and Squirrel Mix with the kids? When you’re done, take your Squirrel Mix bags on a walk in the woods, to a park or just sit on the back step. Here’s what you need: Adorable kids (well, any kid will do)   Some plastic bags (notice we’re not mentioning a brand?)   An assortment of treats (healthy and tasty too!)     For our Squirrel Mix I like to include treats I know the kids love (and then of course I sneak in some healthy options too). We’ve included: cheese crackers, chocolate covered candies, granola, hazel nuts, toasted O’s cereal, yogurt covered raisins, and dried cranberries.     Just for added fun place each item in their own bowls and let the kids … [Read more...]
