It seems like every year Christmas creeps up faster and faster. Life gets super busy with the hustle and bustle of the season and you forget to slow down and spend quality time as an immediate family. We’ve got 15 must do family Christmas activities to encourage you to stop and have some fun.
1) Cut your own real Christmas tree.
Take your family on an adventure to a Christmas tree farm and enjoy the hunt for the perfect tree. It’s definitely more fun than you think!
2) Go ice skating on an outdoor rink or on a lake.
When was the last time you bundled up and went ice skating outside? Get outside and enjoy the fresh air!
3) Go Christmas caroling in the neighborhood next to yours.
Grab some friends and neighbors and spread Christmas joy with the lost art of caroling. No one will care if you can’t sing.
4) Go shopping for toys to donate.
Teach your children the importance of giving in this time of “I want…” by shopping for those less fortunate.
5) Have a family movie night.
Curl up with popcorn and hot chocolate and watch your favorite Christmas movie(s). Don’t forget the classics!
6) Take a Christmas lights tour.
Turn on the Christmas music in your car and drive around looking at everyone’s lights on their houses. Your local news station might let you know where the best light shows in your area will be.
7) Play in the snow as a family.
We usually send our kids outside to play in the snow. It’s time to put on your snow clothes and join your kids in the fun! Build a fort, have a snowball fight, build a snowman, or make snow angels, just get outside as a family!
8) See a Christmas show in your local theater.
It may cost a little money but it is something your kids will not forget!
9) Bake Christmas cookies.
Christmas cookie baking isn’t just for mom and the kids. Get dad involved too!
10) Make a gingerbread house.
Buy a kit or build from scratch, either way, get the entire family involved in decorating the house.
11) Read your favorite Christmas stories by the Christmas tree.
Sip on hot chocolate while reading your favorite Christmas stories by the light of the Christmas tree.
12) Bring hot chocolate to the bell ringers.
Fill up a few thermoses with hot chocolate and grab small disposable cups. Drive to different stores and bring hot chocolate to the Salvation Army bell ringers. Don’t forget to bring quarters for your kids to put in the kettles too!
13) Have a family game night next to the Christmas tree.
Bring out your favorite family games and have some fun. You might want to try Christmas Bingo!
14) Go sledding.
You don’t have to go to an actual sledding hill just find a big hill near you and go!
15) Camp by the Christmas tree.
Spend the night as a family camping out by the Christmas tree just don’t do it on Christmas eve or Santa won’t be able to deliver the presents!
