VTech Kidizoom® Smartwatch #Review and Giveaway

It’s no secret that we love VTech products so when they contacted us again to review their new Kidizoom® smartwatch, we immediately said yes!

What is the Kidizoom® smartwatch you ask? Only the “coolest watch ever” according to my girls. “Mom, it’s like spy stuff!”

Ok, I’ll be completely honest, my 8-year-old thought it was pretty “lame” when she first took a look at it. After all, she is on the higher end of the age range for this product. However, after watching her 5-year-old sister playing with it and loving it, she thought she would give it a try. Shortly after began the constant fights over who got to wear it, and use it when. I ended up having to take the watch away for an entire 24 hours just to stop the fighting! The novelty of having it wore off after three days and now they happily share it.

Both girls think the watch is big for their wrist but that doesn’t stop them from wanting to play with it. The pre-loaded games are a bit too easy for my 8-year-old but my 5-year-old thinks they are “super fun.” Both would like the ability to take selfies with the camera without having to take the watch off and turn it around. I think they spent at least a half and hour the first day playing with the voice record and modification function. I still hear weird voices, then giggles, coming from their room every now and then and I know they are playing with the watch.

The picture and video quality were as I expected for a kids watch like this. It’s not horrible but not great either. The last photo and the video in this post were taken by the girls during our recent trip to the Minnesota sculpture Garden. Neither girl had any trouble figuring out how to use the watch and needed no help from me. The over all quality/durability of the watch seems good. My girls aren’t ones to put it through the ringer though.

My three biggest complaints aren’t really that big of a deal when you look at the whole watch itself. First, the girls quickly used up the 128MB memory by taking a bunch of videos. A reminder not to go completely crazy and delete bad videos solved that problem. Second, the watch asks you to reset the time every time you turn it off and back on. The girls found that to be a bit annoying and asked why the watch did not remember the time especially after short intervals of being off. Last, I don’t think the battery lasts as long as they say it should. Oh well, it’s easy to charge back up.

Overall, the girls and I think the VTech Kidizoom® smartwatch is a fun gadget and would happily recommend it to friends.
