Angel Food Cake Shot Glass Dessert

I've been seeing edible shot glasses all over the internet lately and I think they are awesome. I decided that for Valentine's Day, I'd try making an angel food cake shot glass dessert. I was going to make edible angel food cake shot glasses and fill it with whip cream and raspberries. Doesn't that sound fun? Well, my idea didn't go as planned! First I went to my local store and picked up some shot glass molds. I got home and quickly discovered that you can't use these molds for baking. I went back to the store and found out that you can only get the baking shot glass molds online (at least with that store). To Amazon I went to order my molds using Prime 2-day free shipping. Then I waited... I was so excited when the shot glass molds came in the mail! I hopped online to see if there were any tricks to help with making my angel food cake shot glass dessert, but found nothing related to angel food cake. That should have been my first clue. Oh well, I'd press on through … [Read more...]

10 Back To School Planning Tips

If you haven't figured it out from the signs and supplies in the stores, commercials all over TV, and ads plastered everywhere, we've started back-to-school time. In honor of this time of year, I've come up with 10 back to school planning tips. These aren't your normal back to school planning tips though...hint, buy a bottle of wine! 1) Assess the clothes situation Go through all your kids clothes to see what they have for this coming school year. Learn that one or more of your children has had a growth spurt sometime this summer and you have to buy an entirely new wardrobe. 2) Drink a glass of wine 3) Assess the supply situation Go through the school supply list you received from your child's teacher and assess what you can reuse and what you have to buy. Argue with your child that their backpack and lunch box from last year ARE good enough to use again this year. Realize that you have to buy the rest of the school supplies. Go to multiple stores looking for yellow folders only … [Read more...]

7 Things I Will Not Apologize For While Being A Mom

1)  My messy house. The one room that's supposed to hold all the clutter is too full to keep the door closed. 2)  Mac and Cheese for dinner. My friends secretly feed it to their kids even though they post a deliciously healthy meals on Facebook. 3)  My flabby stomach. I didn't feel like wearing my Spanx today. 4)  TV as a babysitter. An hour of quiet time does a world of good for my attitude! 5)  Telling you to stop making me laugh. No seriously, stop making me laugh, I'm peeing myself! 6)  Yoga pants. Women who aren't moms secretly wish they were moms so they would have an excuse to wear them all day. 7)  Forgetting our lunch date. A glass of wine + lack of sleep = I don't remember anything I did or planned past 7:00 pm last night. What won't you apologize for?   … [Read more...]

Time For Yourself…#QuakerEpicAdventures #Spon

With summer break starting for the majority of families it will be harder and harder for moms to carve out a little bit of time for themselves.  I know I'm going to miss those 2.5 hours of "me time" on Tuesdays and Thursdays when Nutty was at school and Tottie was at preschool! (Please note that the cookies in this photo are the Quaker® Chocolate Almond cookies because my family ate all the plain chocolate chip ones before I could get a photo) Now, this may be TMI (too much information), but I have been guilty of taking an extra long time "going to the bathroom" just to get away from my screaming girls.  I've also been guilty of sneaking snacks such as Quaker® Chocolate Chip Cookies into the bathroom with me just to get that 5-10 minute break.  With only 170 calories and 10 grams of whole grains per serving, I don't feel guilty about eating something sweet while trying to watch my intake.   I know I'm not the only one who uses the bathroom excuse for their "me time"!  Come on, … [Read more...]

Pop Cap Necklaces

It all started when Nutty saw (and liked) some pop cap necklaces online and I got a hair-brained idea that we should make them for party favors for her birthday.  I searched all over the internet on how to make them and found that in theory they'd be super easy for me us to make on our own! Hubby and I drank a few (ahem) beverages and we saved up enough caps to make the necklaces... The first problem was getting the plastic, rubbery thing out of the middle of the cap.  Those buggers are harder to get out than they look!  I (and when I say I, I mean Hubby) resorted to burning them off with his torch. It worked great except for the smell, but it created another problem.  See the color?  Never mind, I was going to paint them anyway...after all, the caps are from (cough) adult beverages. Next came flattening the caps.  No problem right?  We'd just take a hammer and flatten them.  I saw plenty of people do it online... Ok, so they're a bit mis-shapen but that just adds … [Read more...]

Moms never get sick days

I was thinking to myself, as I wallowed in my own pity, that moms never get sick days.  When I say moms, I mean moms, Mr. moms, nannies, etc.  My darling daughter shared her cough with me this past week, and for some reason I got a hefty dose of blech with it!  Coughing up a storm, low grade fever and a totally hot and sexy raspy voice to boot.  Now, I'm not complaining because I know I have the best job in the world, but how come when I get sick the world keeps moving (and sometimes even faster than before)?  How come when my husband is sick the world seems to halt for him? (photo from Sun Dazed) Moms never get sick days!  Why is that?  Where in the job description does it say "PTO not available?"  If I could create a job description for moms, Mr moms and nannies it would say: I am the CEO of a family, a full time maid, chef, personal assistant, nanny, gardener, nurse, vegetable pusher, taxi cab driver, teacher, interior designer, personal shopper, milk maker, book keeper, … [Read more...]
