Oh I wish I were a….

I wanted to share this fun song with you all. This is a song I remember my aunt singing to me when I was a kiddo and now she sings it to my kids via Skype. It is really easy and super funny. She made the kids these great “verse” flash cards so they would know what comes next.

Here are the words:

oh I wish I were a little

Oh I wish I were a little mosquito (mosquito)
Oh I wish I were a little mosquito (mosquito)
For I’d nippy and I’d bitty under everybody’s night
Oh I wish I were a little mosquito (mosquito)!

oh I wish I were a little

Oh I wish I were a little bar of soap (bar of soap)
Oh I wish I were a little bar of soap (bar of soap)
For I’d slippy and I’d slidey under everybody’s hidey
Oh I wish I were a little bar of soap (bar of soap)!

oh I wish I were a little

Oh I wish I were a little striped skunk (striped skunk)
Oh I wish I were a little striped skunk (striped skunk)
For I’d climb up in the trees and perfume up all the breeze
Oh I wish I were a little striped skunk (striped skunk)!

oh I wish I were a little

Oh I wish I were a little can of pop (can of pop)
Oh I wish I were a little can of pop (can of pop)
For I’d go down with a slurp and come up in a BURP
Oh I wish I were a little can of pop (can of pop)!

I’ve seen many other versions and verses of this but these are my favorite ones. Do you know this song? What are some of your favorite songs from childhood?

Comments

  1. noooo!!!!! now this song is stuck in my head. it will only be replaced by other childhood favorites such as the “arky arky song” (rise and shine and give God the glory glory) or “zip a dee doo dah” (the song my mother woke me up with). 🙂

  2. We are constantly singing “Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow, back to my home, I dare not go, for if I do, my Mother will say… Did you ever see a goose kissing a moose down by the bay?” We switch out the rhyming verse. (like did you ever see a fly wear a polka dotted tie?) Doh, this is what I’ll be singing while folding laundry. I like the flash card book too!
