Chocolate-Peanut Butter "Dip"

Ok, this is going to seem like kind-of a cop-out post for a Tasty Treat, however, I kid you not, my girls (and I) LOVE this “dip”!

chocolate peanut butter dip

One day when I was younger I was craving Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups but couldn’t go to the store to get them (because my mom wouldn’t let me).  I dug through our cupboards and found chocolate chips and peanut butter and decided that would be close enough.

Chocolate Peanut Butter DipAfter a few times of simply eating a spoonful of peanut butter with some chocolate chips on top, I decided to actually mix them together.

I took a spoonful (or two) of peanut butter and sprinkled some chocolate chips on top.  (Semi-sweet will work fine but milk chocolate is the best!)

I put the peanut butter and chocolate chips in the microwave to melt the chocolate.  My first attempt was a complete failure.  WARNING: Chocolate chips will burn in the microwave!  I learned my lesson the second time.

(Put it in for 30 seconds or less.  Just until the peanut butter starts to look runny.  The chocolate chips will maintain their shape until you mix it up.)

I kept stirring until the chocolate was melted.  I licked the spoon and the mixture was heavenly (a little runny, but heavenly)!  Something was missing though…gram crackers…perfect!  Chocolate-peanut butter “dip” was born.

I now make this “dip” as a special treat for my girls.  We’ve used it as dip for Nilla Waffers, gram crackers, apples, pound cake and angle food cake pieces, and too many other things to think of right now!

A tip or two if you are going to make chocolate-peanut butter “dip” for you and your kids…
1) Eat it fairly quickly after it is made.  If you let it sit too long it gets dry and will turn back into a weird, dry peanut butter type consistency.
2) Don’t try it as a topping for ice cream.  It just doesn’t work.

Quick confession:  I made this batch for myself after the girls went to bed.  I ate most of it straight out of the bowl without dipping anything into it!
